Pg 080: "Abuse" vs. "Observe"
Socialization
My niece earned her degree in education. During her practicum, she was assigned to a first grade class with the regular, experienced teacher.
During the parent-teacher night, one of the mothers confronted her and said, “My daughter tells me you are abusing the class.” Another mother added, “Yes, my daughter told me the same thing. You are abusing the class."
My niece was shocked. She took the mothers over to the regular classroom teacher and finally figured out what the problem was.
The children had confused what they were told. They were told that she was there to “observe the class.” But the children had gone through so much “abuse education” in first grade, they confused the words “observe” with “abuse."
My niece had to fend off accusations of abuse because two first-graders confused their vocabulary.
