Pg 062: Child labor law

Homeschooling

When confronting a problem on the farm with a piece of machinery or with the staff, I would ask out loud, “Somebody has solved this problem before me -- who are they?  Where are they?  How can I reach them?"

My children heard this for years and it began to work for them, too.

When Stephen turned 14, he said he wanted a job working for somebody else.  I told him, “That’s a good idea, but what are 14-year-olds allowed to do for work?"

The next morning, with no prompting from us, he called the Maine Department of Labor and had them mail him the “Abstracts of the Child Labor Laws in Maine."

He studied that booklet completely and became the resident expert for all his friends!
