Pg 053: Not ready for 3rd grade
Homeschooling
My son attended a private school from kindergarten through third grade. There was something not right about my son’s third grade math marks. He had earned all A’s for four marking periods. But when he was tested with a standardized achievement test, he scored in the 16th percentile.
Yes, I had the same question. How can he earn all A’s in the classroom and do so miserably with standardized testing? So we asked the teacher.
She had an immediate answer. She said that he was tested with a third grade math test, and they didn’t do third grade math this year.
She went on to explain that the rest of the class wasn’t ready for third grade math, so she held everybody back to do second grade math over again.
We began homeschooling him in the fourth grade.
