Pg 102: Stephanie drives our van
Homeschooling
When Stephanie was 9, she and I came back from the dentist. When we entered the farm, I told her I needed to stop at “building one” to see the men.
She said, “Dad, I know how to drive the van. I’ll drive it up to the house for you."
Well, in a spilt second I remembered it was totally flat pasture on the left, totally flat on the right, this was a brand new Grand Caravan, but she had driven the farm tractor for two years. What’s the worst that could happen?
I had no idea that my wife was at the end of that 1,200 foot driveway and saw me get out of the driver’s seat, put Stephanie in there, close the doors and watch the car drive toward her without me.
Stephanie drove into the parking space next to the house. She shut off the car, put it in park, walked into the house and announced, “Mom! I’m home!"
(Shortly thereafter, my wife made it a point to talk with me about this rich homeschool experience.)
